Cooking Demo at the Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp

Last weekend, I was invited by Samsung Malaysia to give a short cooking demonstration at the “Samsung-Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp" which was held at the Chelsea Blue Pitch @ NPNG Sports Centre, Damansara Damai.

When I was told that the theme for the event was 'healthy living  achieved through nutritious food and exercise', I immediately jumped at this wonderful opportunity to showcase simple and nutritious meals which could even be prepared by children!

For this event, I chose to demonstrate three simple dishes i.e. Habanero Roast Chicken served with Steamed Vegetables and Cheddar & Scallion Southern Biscuits. Samsung Malaysia so kindly allowed me to use the "Samsung OmniPro" which is a convention microwave oven.

The Samsung OmniPro was really easy to use and believe it or not, I could roast, steam & bake all three dishes using the same one machine! I was so impressed with how seamless cooking with the Samsung OmniPro was. Just a quick look at the menu settings was all it took to figure out how to work it. That's how user-friendly the Samsung OmniPro is!

I had such a good time demonstrating how fun and simple cooking is to the bunch of eager (and hungry!) kids. 

I even managed to get some of them to help me out during my demonstration. They were so polite and helpful!

Habanero Roast Chicken with Steamed Vegetables

2 whole leg chicken
1 tablespoon blended garlic
2 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon habanero chili flakes
2 tablespoon of olive oil
A pinch of salt
A pinch of corse white pepper

50 gm Cherry tomatoes
100gm French beans, cut
2 Yellow capsicum, cut
200gm Corn Kernels
2 tablespoons of Butter
10 cloves of chopped garlic

Salt to taste
Corse white pepper to taste

Habanero Roast Chicken
Mix all the ingredients together in a mixing bowl, and rub it on the chicken legs. Let it marinate for a few minutes.
Put the chicken on the high rack and the crusty plate (Samsung Omnipro accessory). 
Set the Samsung Omnipro to auto cook function, select poultry, and press start.
The weight sensor will indicate the time needed to cook the chicken (based on its weight). 

Put all the ingredients in the pro steamer (on the strainer).
Add a bit of water at the bottom (in the round pan).
Set the Samsung Omnipro to steam function, and select cut vegetables and press start.
The weight sensor will indicate the time needed to steam the vegetables (based on its weight). 

Cheddar and Scallion southern biscuits

100gm bread flour
100gm normal wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
70gm butter
130ml fresh milk

70 gm sharp cheddar, shredded 

2 stalk of fresh scallion (spring onion) chopped
1 egg yolk
Olive oil for greasing
Baking paper

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl.
Add in the butter and mix well.
Add in the milk and knead lightly. 
Put the dough on a piece of baking paper, fold the paper and roll the dough using a rolling pin about a cm in thickness.
Put the cheddar and the scallions on the rolled dough, and fold the dough.
Cut it into desired shape and size.
Arrange it on the grilling pan and brush egg yolk on the surface of the dough.
Set the Samsung Omnipro to crusty function. Select biscuit, and press start.
